Thank you so much to all of the people who came out to see the CMB on our run last week. All of the people in St.Louis, Oakland, and Los Angeles really turned out! I wish I could give all of you a hug. Frankly, I was surprised at the turnouts we had. It's been so long since I've played in St.Louis, I didn't know what to expect. But St.Louis was REPRESENTIN'! Terreon's family cooked the band some down home soul food on that saturday. They made us Ribs, Chicken, Smothered Pork Chops, Collard Greens, Yams, Stuffing, Macaroni & Cheese, etc. WHEW!! It was MEAN!!
As always, Yoshi's (Oakland) made me feel right at home. My new recording family, Warner Brothers, videotaped the shows for an electronic press kit for my next CD. Also, my man Joshua Redman showed up, as well as one of the greatest baseball players of all time, Orlando Cepeda. It was a gas. I even did my Dean Martin impersonation! I was really buggin' that night....
When we got to LA, I was so scared because we had such big crowds in St.Louis (multiple nights, by the way) and in Oakland, I was hoping to get at least a moderate crowd in LA at USC. Our concert was scheduled at 7pm, and at 6:55, I looked out in the audience and saw virtually nobody! I was hot! I couldn't figure out what was happening. The promoter said, "Don't worry, man. We sold 750 tickets!" I said, "Well, where the hell is everybody!?!?" He said, "C'mon, man. You know this is LA. Everyone will be here by 8pm!" He was right! We held up the show until about 7:30, and the place was darn near packed! LA, you came through, too! Thank you.
I sincerely hope that our European tour is just as wonderful. Europe, I promise....no Dean Martin impersonations!
